Luncheon on the Grass. Douglas Fir ‘Tadeusz’ in the Lentz Villa’s Gardens
Lentz Villa’s garden
03-06-2023, Saturday, at 11:30 am - Ticketed event
A nice surprise for the participants of the nearest edition of our ‘Luncheon on the Grass’.
On Saturday 3rd June 2023 (around 11.30 a.m.), a tree dedicated to the memory of the eminent poet Tadeusz Różewicz, who spent his holidays in Szczecin several times in the 1940s, will be unveiled in our Villa’s garden. The writer frequently recalled, among others, his walks around Lake Głębokie as one of the attractions of those holidays.
The tree, brought to Szczecin from Wrocław, was donated by Jan Stolarczyk, Różewicz’s friend and long-time publisher. They both dug this sapling up in 2013 in the poet’s own garden. For the next ten years, it grew in Stolarczyk’s yard.
The extraordinary story of the people who have contributed to Różewicz’s fir being brought to the Lentz Villa’s garden in Szczecin will be told during the ceremony of unveiling that splendid conifer, which in its homeland (the southwest part of North America) can grow up to several dozen metres in height.
The transplantation of the tree to our garden was initiated and organised by Robert Florczyk, and inspired by Artur Daniel Liskowacki, who has also written the text presented on the memorial plate.
