Songs with lyrics by Wojciech Młynarski make up the programme of two concerts held at the Lentz Villa on 23rd and 24th September 2023 at 7 p.m., as part of our cycle ICONS OF CULTURE.
The presented songs were released by the Młynarski Plays Młynarski band on the album Rebecca Won’t Come Down for Supper Tonight. Both this album and the band’s enthusiastically received concerts present Młynarski Jr’s fresh and subjective view of some of his father’s works. It is also the outstanding artist, composer, and singer Gaba Kulka’s encounter with […] the poetic magic of Wojciech Młynarski’s legendary song
Młynarski loved to see many different colours – in music, in art and life. The band’s programme is thus similarly multicoloured, featuring Gaba Kulka’s vocals accompanied by the band led by Jan Emil Młynarski, the poet’s son. It is a journey through musical styles and moods, including jazz, traditional restaurant dance songs, new wave, and folk. As our audience will see, the links between the lyrics and the music are extremely close also today, owing to Wojciech Młynarski’s exceptionally close collaboration with composers such as Korcz, Sent, Wasowski, Derfel, and others.
Apart from Kulka and Młynarski Jr, our audience will hear the excellent musicians who played in the original lineup of Młynarski Plays Młynarski, such as Wojciech Traczyk and Piotr Zabrodzki, among others.
‘This band is a synthesis of my concert career so far, my family history, as well as friendship with Gaba, Piotr, and Wojciech. It is also my personal encounter with my father as a great songwriter.’ Let this comment by Jan Emil Młynarski serve as encouragement for you to join us for the concerts at the Lentz Villa.
