Sax & Villas. Applications until March 31, 2024

For the third time, composers from all over the world will have the opportunity to take part in the "Sax&Villas" competition. The event was initiated by Willa Lentz in Szczecin and every year, in cooperation with international cultural institutions, it enables young composers to present their work on prestigious stages. There are attractive prizes for the competition winners. Applications can be sent from January 10 to March 31, 2024.
The “Sax&Villas” competition is addressed to composers from around the world who are under 35 years old, and its aim is to enrich chamber music literature. In addition to Villa Lentza, the co-organizers of this year's edition are Villa la Padula (Italy) and Escola Artística Do Conservatório De Música Calouste Gulbenkian (Portugal).

To take part in the competition, you must compose a piece not exceeding 12 minutes in any of the three categories:

1. a trio consisting of two saxophones (chosen from among soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone), and piano
2. a duo of saxophone (chosen from among soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone) and piano
3. a chamber saxophone orchestra consisting of 8 to 12 instruments (e.g. Snino or S, SSAAATTTBBBs)

The winners will receive cash prizes of EUR 1,500 and EUR 500, statuettes and world premieres of the work by renowned performers. In addition, the winner will be able to spend three days in the place where the work was first performed and three days in Szczecin – the cost of the trip (food and accommodation) is covered by the organizers.

The competition jury chaired by prof. Krzysztof Meyer will be joined by Giuseppe Bruno (Italy), Carlos Manuel Pires Marques (Portugal), prof. Dariusz Samól (Poland) and dr. Marilyn Shrude (USA).

Applications should be sent using the completed form to the following address: SAXandVILLAS@willa-lentza.pl from January 10 to March 31, 2024. The rules and details of the competition can be found on the website of Willa Lentza in Szczecin.
