WALTER HOFER IN LENTZ VILLA
DISCUSSION: VALUES IN CULTURE AND SPORT

Contemporary sport plays a vital role in mass culture. In the history of humanity, it has gone from ancient rituals through traditional games and activities to professional sports, providing rivals and observers with passionate entertainment.
It is worth adding that the subject of sport has been omnipresent in art since time immemorial, becoming a field devoted to, among other things, the cult of stars – idols. Unique sculptures, paintings and poems were created for the victors. Music also encouraged participants of great sports competitions to fight. For them, in 1972 (including 21 medalists from Poland), Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki composed the anthem for the opening ceremony of the 20th Summer Olympics in Munich.
Realising the importance of sport in human life in combination with culture and art, we decided to organise a meeting at the Lentz Villa (Saturday – July 30, 4:00 p.m.) with the participation of Walter Hofer – sports activist, former director of the Ski Jumping World Cup and Nordic Combined. In addition, a discussion panel on VALUES IN CULTURE AND SPORT is planned at 6:00 p.m.
Daniel Pacitti – one of the most prominent bandoneonists in the world, creator of the "Concerto for Cello and Orchestra" – a work dedicated to the composer's compatriot, the genius footballer from Argentina, Leo Messi will be a guest of the residence as well. The piece, which premiered at the Berlin Philharmonic, will be performed for the first time in Szczecin during the summer meeting at the Lentz Villa (8:00 p.m.).
