On Saturday 4th March (at 7 p.m.), the world-famous ATOM STRING QUARTET will give a unique concert at the Lentz Villa, presenting music by Karol Szymanowski and Henryk Wieniawski.
The ensemble is considered as one of the world’s most intriguing string quartets. Its performances betray inspirations from jazz, folklore, classical and contemporary classical music. The musicians have won acclaim at many prestigious concert venues and jazz festivals worldwide, including the Berliner and Hildener Jazztage, Festival Veranos de la Villa Madrid, and Jazz Jamboree. Their repertoire includes works by such composers as Krzysztof Penderecki, Zbigniew Seifert, Krzysztof Komeda, Victor Young, Władysław Sendecki, and Chick Corea.
The Quartet was founded in 2010 by a group of improvisation masters – graduates of the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw: violinists Dawid Lubowicz and Mateusz Smoczyński, violist Michał Zaborski, and cellist Krzysztof Lenczowski. Two of its numerous albums won the Fryderyk Awards of the Polish record industry: Fade In as the 2011 Jazz Debut of the Year, and Places as the 2012 Best Jazz Album of the Year.
