Piano Recital by Ewa Pobłocka

Please join us for a recital by eminent pianist Ewa Pobłocka, who will perform at the Lentz Villa on Saturday, 24th February 2024, as part of our cycle CHOPIN AT THE LENTZ VILLA. COMPLETE WORKS.
Pobłocka’s accolades include being a prize-winner of the 10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (1980; also the Polish Radio award for the best performance of Chopin’s mazurkas), as well as earning the 1st prize in the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in Vercelli (1977) and the gold medal of the International Festival of Young Music Competition Prize-Winners in Bordeaux (1979). The artist has given performances throughout Europe as well as in both Americas, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Australia, and South Africa.

Pobłocka is a successful chamber musician, as well as a performer on period instruments from Chopin’s time. She has been the dedicatee and first performer of many works by Polish contemporary composers such as Andrzej Panufnik, Witold Lutosławski, Paweł Szymański, and Paweł Mykietyn, and others. Her discography comprises more than fifty titles released under such labels as, among others, Deutsche Grammophon, Pony Canyon, Victor JVC, Polskie Nagrania ‘Muza’, The Fryderyk Chopin Institute NIFC, CD Accord, and BeArTon. She was the first Polish pianist to have recorded both volumes of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier (NIFC 2018, 2023). The first of these albums was included in Gramophone magazine’s list of 50 finest Bach recordings of all time.

Much sought-after as an educator, Pobłocka teaches masterclasses worldwide, as well as serving on the juries of Polish and international piano competitions (in Warsaw, Tel Aviv, Hamamatsu, Ettlingen, Calgary, and others). She is also an author (including in 2021 of her first full-length book, Forte-piano) and radio presenter (broadcasts on Bach’s music on Polish Radio Channel Two: Start with Bach, 2020-2021 and The Bach Adventures, 2021).
