CHOPIN AT THE WILLA LENTZA. COMPLETE WORKS. Saleem Abboud Ashkar

  • Willa Lentza

Our next recital in the cycle CHOPIN AT THE WILLA LENTZA. COMPLETE WORKS features the brilliant pianist Saleem Abboud Ashkar, who has accepted the invitation to perform at Szczecin’s artistic salon on Saturday 27th July 2024 at 7 p.m. This Nazareth-born musician took his first piano lessons from a relative from Lebanon. He then studies with Arie Vardi in Tel Aviv and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, as well as with Maria Curcio at London’s Royal Academy of Music.
His great talent was discovered at age 17 by world-famous conductor Zubin Mehta, who addressed the pianist with an offer of performing Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Since that time, Ashkar has played with the world’s main orchestras, including Wiener Philharmoniker, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Filharmonica della Scala, the Concertgebouworkest, and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in Saint Petersburg. At age 22 he made his debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall, and later also appeared at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Salzburg Mozarteum, Vienna’s Musikverein, and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels. The brilliant musician has also won acclaim during such major festivals as London’s BBC Proms, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, and Salzburger Festspiele. He regularly performs under famous and legendary conductors, including the already mentioned Zubin Mehta as well as Daniel Barenboim and Riccardo Muti.

Saleem Abboud Ashkar’s recital at the Lentz Villa opens with Robert Schumann’s Fantasie in C Major, Op. 17, which is likely to remind our audience of Fryderyk Chopin’s two meetings with this German Romantic composer in Leipzig: on 28th September 1835 and 12th September 1836. The other works in the programme are by Chopin: two nocturnes (in D-Flat Major, Op. 27 No. 2 and C minor, Op. 48 No. 1), Scherzo in B-Flat Minor, Op. 31 No. 2, and Sonata in B Minor, Op. 58 No. 3.

Please join us for this unique and very likely unforgettable musical experience.
