WALTZ & VILLA

Dance has already made its way into the Lentz Villa. Last year, tango lovers came to the seat of the youngest cultural institution in Szczecin. Last Saturday (May 29, 2022), we hosted crowds of waltz enthusiasts.
The rich and varied program included, among others: a film screening, a lecture, a discussion panel, concerts, a dance show and a tasting of Austrian specialities.

The event began with the screening of the film Waterloo Bridge directed by Mervyn LeRoy, with brilliant acting by Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor. The film, and above all, the music used in it, became an excellent introduction to the lecture by Dominika Byczkowska-Owczarek, PhD, which the author provocatively titled About the waltz – how a rebel came to the salons. The presentation of the sociologist from the University of Łódź provoked a discussion with participants moderated by Professor Tomasz Tomaszewski – the first concertmaster of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and attended by Mirosław Kosiński – baritone, educator, actor and director, Zurab Pirveli – Georgian singer, actor, director, screenwriter and teacher associated with Szczecin for several years, such as also Jakub Stefek, PhD – pedagogue, organist from the Academy of Arts.

A musical feast and an introduction to the unique atmosphere of the evening was Lisa's aria from the operetta The Land of Smile by Franz Lehár, sung fantastically by an artist with a phenomenal voice – Joanna Tylkowska-Drożdż.

The audience of the Salonorchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin, led by Tomasz Tomaszewski – 1st violin, with Sunjae Ok – 2nd violin, provided the audience with a masterful performance of famous compositions; Sebastian Sokół – viola, Michael Husla – cello, Theo Jeongwook Lee – double bass, Ewa Tomaszewska – piano and Daniel Pacitti – bandoneon. Piotr Tomaszewski, the host, also talked colourfully about the works performed and the era in which they were written.

In the elegant, richly decorated interiors of the Lentz Villa, a dance show by Klaudia Masłowska and Krzysztof Fedyk – an "S" class pair from the ASTRA Dance School in Szczecin provoked a relationship between the partners that was difficult to repeat in other conditions. As a result, the finalists of the World Championships and the Polish Championships in ten dances, instructors and coaches who have been expanding their knowledge of world-famous ballroom dancing stars for years have proved to be among the leading European dancers.

The audience was also delighted with the performance of the actor of the Contemporary Theater in Szczecin, poet and winner of the Szczecin City Art Award 2020, performer of the role of August Lentz in the performance of 1888. The Villa of Love – Konrad Pawicki performed a mini recital in the villa. The artist was also the host of the whole evening.

The event, organised in the rhythm of a waltz, ended with a tasting of Austrian cuisine specialities and wines with the participation of professional sommeliers.

The event has been organised under the patronage of the Austrian Embassy in Poland.
