We are pleased to inform that the jury of the 3rd International Composers’ Competition SAXandVILLAS 2024, consisting of:
Prof. Krzysztof Meyer (Poland), chair of the jury
and jury members:
Giuseppe Bruno (Italy),
Prof. Carlos Manuel Pires Marques, MD (Portugal),
Prof. Dariusz Samól, DMA, Habil. (Poland),
Prof. Marilyn Shrude, DMA (USA)
has concluded its work and announced its verdict.
The jurors’ decisions are as follows:
The 1st prize goes to DAMIAN DZIWEŃKA (pseudonym: Naard) from Krotoszyce, Poland for In the Name of Land.
The 2nd prize was awarded to MICHELE ALLEGRO (pseudonym: Irese90) from Sciacca, Italy for New York Tales.
The 3rd prize winner is ROBERTO MARIA CIPOLLINA (pseudonym: YKN22) from La Spezia, Italy for Apparuit.
The following artists have received honourable mentions:
FILIP GOŁDANOWSKI (pseudonym: ynofoskas) from Warsaw, Poland for 4-3-3-2, and
KRZYSZTOF SITEK (pseudonim: nietsnro2024) from Rybnik, Poland for Dithyramb.
The Competition’s aim has been to expand the global chamber music repertoire with new works scored for:
1. a duo of saxophone (chosen from among soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone) and piano,
2. a trio consisting of two saxophones (chosen from among soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone, in any configuration) and piano,
3. a chamber saxophone orchestra consisting of 8 to 12 instruments.
Professor Krzysztof Meyer, chair of the jury, commented on the musical quality of the submitted works as follows:
The compositions varied significantly, not only in the choice of instruments, but, most importantly, in style and technique […]. It should be stressed that the standards of the submitted pieces and thus also the level of the competition as a whole was high for the most part. Notably, the scores given by individual jurors were largely similar, and they principally agreed as to the assessment of each work.
We are grateful to the jurors for their excellent work and to all the contestants for their participation in this year’s edition. We encourage you to enter our competition in the years to come.
