Bios

Janusz Olejniczak

One of the most eminent 20th- and 21st-century Chopin performers, a prize-winner in the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Olejniczak has given performances on all continents, earning applause at, among others, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Parisian Salle Pleyel, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, New York’s Lincoln Center, Düsseldorf’s Tonhalle, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. He has served on the juries of piano competitions and conducted masterclasses in Europe, Japan, Canada, and Columbia.

Apart from staples of classical repertoire, he promotes Polish contemporary music worldwide, performing works by Witold Lutosławski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Wojciech Kilar, and others. He has appeared with orchestras under the baton of such famous conductors as Witold Rowicki, Stanisław Wisłocki, Kazimierz Kord, Antoni Wit, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Wojciech Michniewski, Tadeusz Strugała, Charles Dutoit, Andrzej Boreyko, Grzegorz Nowak, and Jacek Kaspszyk, as well as frequently with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century under Frans Brüggen and the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées under Philippe Herreweghe.

Olejniczak had recorded more than forty albums (including eight Fryderyk-winning titles) as well as soundtracks for Roman Polański’s THE PIANIST and Andrzej Żuławski’s LA NOTE BLEUE.
