We invite you to another concert from the VILLA ITALIA cycle! On Friday 21st July at 7 p.m., our audience will have the opportunity to admire the enchanting, unique voice and incredible technical abilities of the excellent Italian jazz singer Simona De Rosa, who will perform in Szczecin with the Polish trio Confusion Project.

It was with the leader of Confusion Project, Michał Ciesielski, and Chinese musicians, that the artist recently recorded in Beijing her new album DJENUB – the singer’s personal homage to the various cultures and peoples of the South with whom she has had the chance to come in contact and share the pleasure of joint music-making. These experiences have had a substantial impact on her characteristic musical language. In her pieces, she combines jazz arrangements of folk music from her native Naples with those of Vietnam and the Chinese province of Yunnan. Her original works are performed in many languages (including Arabic, Spanish, and her mother tongue – Neapolitan) and draw on various cultural themes related to the nations of the South.

With Michał Ciesielski, Simona presented these pieces during her tour of Italy, China, and Vietnam. The concert held at the Lentz Villa now provides us with a chance to hear these exceptional works in Poland. The band will also play music from albums recorded as part of the project ‘EU Jazz Encounters in China’.

Charismatic jazz singer Simona De Rosa graduated from New York’s Queens College. She has won prizes at, among others, Rome’s Casa Del Jazz festival and been acclaimed in New York, Beijing, and Singapore. She is also an educator, deriving great satisfaction from teaching vocal workshops in various parts of the world, as well as a jazz singing class at Beijing’s Contemporary Music Academy.

Confusion Project is a trio (Michał Ciesielski – piano, Piotr Gierszewski – bass guitar, Adam Golicki – drums) characterised by a poetic and illustrative approach to improvised music, with strong influences froms classical music and such genres as rock and drum&bass. They have met with enthusiastic reception in both Poland and abroad (China, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, and Italy), recorded four studio albums, and given more than two hundred concerts worldwide.
