On Thursday, 27th July 2023 at 7 p.m. we present another concert from our cycle AD ASTRA. The programme, titled "Musical Settings of Poetry", will be presented by VOC’N’SEMBLE vocal quartet.
Founded in 2020, the quartet consists of Polish soprano Magdalena Tomczuk, German mezzo-soprano Julia Mattheis, Spanish tenor Pere Pou Llompart, and French baritone Olivier Brunel. These four were brought together by their love of music and by singing together in the choir of Frankfurt Opera, where they have been regularly employed for many years.
The programme they will present in Szczecin comprises vocal music from the late Renaissance to contemporary, including such masterpieces as Luca Marenzio’s (1553-1599) madrigals to Petrarch’s poems, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartoldy’s (1809-1847) pieces to texts by Goethe, Lenau, Uhland, and Eichendorff, Mieczysław Karłowicz’s (1876-1909) music to poetry by Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer, and Paul Hindemith’s (1895-1963) settings of texts by Rilke. The works will be performed in the mother tongues of the quartet’s individual members. The performed songs have been arranged for vocal quartet by Pere Pou Llompart.
