Jazz at the Villa: Kuba Stankiewicz Trio | A bear guards the lentz villa’s garden

The legendary Kuba Stankiewicz Trio (Kuba Stankiewicz – piano, Wojciech Pulcyn – bass, Sebastian Frankiewicz – drums) performed at the Lentz Villa on Saturday, presenting excellent arrangements of pre-WWII hits written by Polish composers who rose to great worldwide fame thanks to collaborations with Hollywood’s greatest film companies. The programme featured brilliant works by the following composers:
  • Bronisław Kaper, four-time Oscar nominee and the first Polish recipient of this most highly valued film award (for his soundtrack for Lili),
  • Victor Young (Pol. Jung), composer of music for more than 300 films, winner of one Oscar, but nominated for this award as many as 22 times,
  • Henryk Wars, hailed in Poland as a precursor of swing, composer of hit songs sung in nearly 90 US and Polish films by such stars as Loda Halama, Hanka Ordonówna, Eugeniusz Bodo, Adolf Dymsza, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Brenda Lee, Dinah Shore, and Jimmie Rogers.

The trio’s great musical mastery, the lightness of its style, brilliant improvisations, and excellent contact with the audience earned them a rapturous standing ovation. Jazz will return to the Lentz Villa on 14th January, when Poland’s best jazz guitarists Marek Napiórkowski and Artur Lesicki play a concert of Christmas carols titled Silence in the Night.

small great music.

Before the concert, the sculpture of ‘A Bear’ was ceremoniously exhibited for the first time in the Lentz Villa’s garden. The authors of this unique work are sculptor Piotr Wesołowski and co-author of large-scale spatial forms Aleksander Bryk. It is thanks to them that we can make the acquaintance of this bear, which will guard our seat in Szczecin from 26th November this year till 27th March 2023.
